Are you losing money mysteriously?

27 August 2008

Savings accounts should be a safe place for you to keep your funds, but this requires awareness on the part of the user. If you are finding money has been mysteriously taken from your bank account, there could be many reasons for this.

If the amounts are somewhat frequent and small, then you could be getting charged fees that you are unaware of or else you may have forgotten a direct debit that you set up in the past. Keep your own records of withdrawals and transactions that you have made, and then compare this to the one available for your account to find any discrepancies.

If you are losing large amounts, then immediate action is called for. Notify your bank that you believe your account security is compromised and take all the necessary steps to make your savings accounts secure again. Depending on the circumstances, the bank may have to reimburse you for your losses, so be sure to find out whether this is the case.
